At Colin's elm school they have an outstanding program called WATCH DOGS (Dads of Great Students). The program is to encourage and support men on campus, in a positive way. Our friend and neighbor was involved last year when his son was in Kindergarten and told Pete about the program. Pete jumped at the opportunity to become (even more) involved in Colin's school life. Most of the Dads only signed up to volunteer one day but Pete was able to get 3!
Pete's first WATCH DOG day was in November. Colin felt so special that HIS DADDY was on the morning announcements and said "Hi" to him and Mrs. H's class! Pete had fun assisting with lunch and recess but really loved spending time in Colin's classroom. The boys got their picture taken and it is posted on a bulletin board for everyone to see!
His 2nd WATCH DOG day was in March...the 1st day back from Spring Break...what was he thinking? Colin was telling everybody that he was going to be a Watch Dog the Monday after spring break. It is so sweet to see Colin get excited about school and having Daddy there to share it with him.
Even though the kids were a little shell shocked from being home for a week, he still had a great time volunteering! Pete played tag, red light-green light and swung on the swings at recess, helped with lunches, went to PE and taught a small group in Colin's class! There are no pictures to share (shame on Daddy) but Pete did bring home a SS activity on The Yellow Rose of Texas that he assisted with in the classroom.
When he came home, he was exhausted...now he knows what I go through EVERY DAY! :)
Pete gets 1 more opportunity in May to be a WATCH DOG and I am sure it will be just as fun as the other two!
